--A pronoun takes the place of a noun. ex: After Amy’s final exam, she breathed a sigh of relief. Case: what role a pronoun has in a sentence Subjective: the pronoun does take the action in the sentence. Is located before the verb in the sentence. (to the left of the verb) example: I fell asleep while reading my book. Objective: the pronoun does not take the action in the sentence. Is located after the verb in the sentence. (to the right of the verb) example: Mike hit me. The students will have their second vocabulary test next Thursday, October 23rd. It will be in the same format as the first test and will cover the following 12 words:
Static character dynamic character plot exposition rising action climax falling action resolution tone denotation connotation sensory details Today in class we started a new unit titled Teens in the Media. There are four major assignments that go with this unit. 1. Novel Notebook (two formative quiz grades) 2. Independent Book Project (summative grade) 3. On-Demand Writing Piece (summative grade) 4. Test on the novel Stargirl (summative grade) Students received a unit overview sheet with a calendar that has the due dates for the assignments. The dates are tentative and may change. I have attached a copy of the overview sheet. The novel notebooks will be completed using their independent novel. The novel should have a main character that is in the preteen-teenage range. There are three assignments in the novel notebook: two weeks of analysis, and two essay questions at the end. I will do a weekly check to make sure the students are staying up to date with the work in their notebooks. Answers need to be thorough, thoughtful response written in complete sentences. I have attached a copy of the novel notebook.
Vocabulary Test on Friday 9/26Students have a vocabulary test this Friday over the 15 terms we have been focusing on in class. The test will require that they know the definition of the term, how it is used, and that they can correctly spell the word. They have notes on all the terms, and if they need some help with them, I have tutoring tomorrow afternoon from 3:30-4:30 in the library. The 15 words are listed below:
